What to do if the sound on the computer does not work?

Most computer users do not imagine their work behind them without audio speakers. Listening to music, watching movies and gaming is impossible without an audio component. But if one fine day the sound stopped coming out of your computer speakers, then this is already a reason to think about the performance of both the speakers and the sound card. Undoubtedly, it is much easier to solve a hardware problem with audio. Replacing speakers or a mini-jack cable will cost a pretty penny. But if the sound card burned out or there were problems with the software, the process of solving sound problems can drag on for a long time. What to do if the sound on the computer does not work?

If until the moment the sound disappeared you were not picking a screwdriver in your ear, then the first thing to do is to restart the operating system. Often, program failures lead to the shutdown of services, including the Windows Audio service.

Did a reboot solve the problem? First, check the sound volume in the system. Hover over the tray in the lower right area of the screen and left-click on the icon marked in the screenshot below.

Set the slider to the optimal volume for you and check for sound. If the sound on your computer is quiet, then it is likely that the sound mixer on your system is not configured correctly. Click the "Mixer" link below the slider and adjust the volume for each app.

Has the sound issue been resolved? It's time to check the performance of the speakers and their connection to the computer. As a rule, speakers are connected to a computer using a regular 3.5 mm green mini-jack connector. Insert the speaker plug into the green connector on the back of the computer case.

Often the sound disappears due to the inoperability of the speakers. Connect them to any player or smartphone and start playing any song. If there is no sound, then it's time to go to the store for new speakers. Didn't have a player or smartphone at hand? Try checking your headphones for sound. If you don’t hear your favorite music even in headphones, then you will have to figure out the software reasons for the lack of audio.

So, first you need to check the status of the Windows Audio service, which is responsible for the operation of all sound in the system. Open "Start", click on the control panel and go to "Administrative Tools".

After restarting the service, you need to look in the "Sound" section in the control panel. Are there no audio devices in the sound settings window? It is likely that the audio driver has crashed, which you need to install in order to restore sound in Windows.
