Все большую популярность получают твердотельные накопитель (SSD). Это связанно с их постоянным удешевлением и конечно с более быстрой работой с файлами. Если не вдаваться в подробности,то SSD это своего рода флешка, только благодаря более совершенным технологиям значительно большего объема и значительно более высокой скоростью чтения и записи. На данный момент замена традиционного жесткого диска на SSD даст неплохой прирост производительности (наиболее заметна высокая производительность при подключении SSD в SATAIII), в частности- загрузка операционной системы будет проходить в разы быстрее, программы будут шустрей открываться, с большей скоростью будут копироваться файлы. Но что бы ощутить всю прелесть работы вашего SSD- первое, что необходимо сделать, это обновить прошивку на нем. Зачем нужно обновлять прошивку?- спросите вы, для того, что бы избавиться от проблем, которые производитель заметил после массового выпуска SSD, и исправил их с помощью новой прошивки.
В данной статье я пошагово опишу процесс обновления прошивки на SSD OCZ Vertex 4 , но для SSD OCZ Vertex 3, OCZ Agility 4, OCZ Agility 3, OCZ Vector, OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS, OCZ Vertex Plus R2 процесс обновления прошивки абсолютно идентичен.
Для успешного обновления прошивки, необходимо учесть некоторые факторы:
1) Перед обновлением прошивки вашего SSD необходимо скопировать все данные, которые могут вам понадобиться на другой носитель. Скорее всего с ними ничего не случиться, но возможен сбой и все данные вы можете потерять.
2) Подключать SSD диск необходимо в качестве дополнительного диска,а не основного (на котором установлена система). Также необходимо учесть, что вам понадобиться именно компьютер на котором можно подключить SSD через SATA, если вы надеетесь обновить прошивку на ноутбуке/ компьютере подключив его с помощь адаптера SATA-USB

могу вас огорчить, с помощью данных устройств, ничего не получиться, программа не "увидит" ваш SSD, будет надпись No Supported Drivers Found

3) Для успешной прошивки вашего OCZ, контроллер SATA в BIOS-е необходимо установить в режим AHCI. В связи с этим хочу добавить, что если на вашем компьютере установленна Windows XP, обновить прошивку не получиться, поскольку, если вы измените режим на AHCI, ваша система выдаст вам синий экран, да и по заверению самих OCZ-тов -Обновление прошивки с панели инструментов не поддерживается в Windows XP!!! В таком случае вам необходимо переустановить систему, скажем на Windows 7 (перед этим выбрав режим AHCI) и обновить прошивку.
4) Для обновления прошивки OCZ понадобиться подключение к интернету.
Если все условия выполнены необходимо скачать программу для обновления прошивки OCZ (зайдя на сайт, выберете из списка свой SSD и скачайте для него OCZ Toolbox ).
Разархивируйте скачанную папку и запустите файл OCZToolbox.exe. Запуститься программа OCZ Toolbox v {номер версии}. в ней вы увидите свой SSD диск. Кликнув на него, с правой стороны появиться информация о нем.
Кликнув на меню Tools , увидите заветную кнопку Update Firmware , нажимаете на нее.
Важно!!! Во время прошивки обеспечить компьютер бесперебойным питанием, или всяческим воздействиям на него из вне, если компьютер выключиться или перезагрузиться во время обновления прошивки, это может привести к поломке SSD.
Появиться предупреждение, о том, что необходимо сделать бекап данных, если вы перенесли все данные с SSD на другой носитель нажимаете "Yes".
Начнется процесс скачивания новой прошивки и ее установка, это займет буквально несколько секунд, после чего в программе появиться сообщение Update comleted successfuly. Please power-cycle yur drive.
После этого выключаем компьютер, вытаскиваем питание от SSD и подключаем его спустя минуту- две, после этого включаете компьютер. Запускаем программу OCZ Toolbox, проверяем обновилась ли прошивка, если у вас стояла очень старая прошивка возможно потребуется повторить процедуру для установки последней прошивки (вполне возможно, что первую прошивку которую вы установили была промежуточная)
Надеюсь данная пошаговая инструкция помогла обновить прошивку на вашем SSD не важно каком, будь то OCZ Vertex 4, OCZ Vertex 3, OCZ Agility 4, OCZ Agility 3, OCZ Vector, OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS или OCZ Vertex Plus R2 . И вы получили стабильно работающий, высокоскоростной SSD диск.

У дисков OCZ серии Vertex есть неприятная особенность (возможно, присущая дискам и других производителей), с которой пришлось мне столкнуться.
Иногда при отключении питания (например, кончился заряд батарей ноутбука, или комп завис и пришлось его перезагрузить) эти диски блокируются ATA паролем (ATA password). И чтобы получить снова доступ к SSD, требуется его как-то разблокировать. Это баг в прошивке, потому все SSD диски настоятельно рекомедуется сразу после покупки перепрошить на последнюю версию firmware!
Я свой диск не перепрошил, и у меня с диском Vertex 450 произошло именно это — зависание, перезагрузка компа и блокировка диска. В результате с диском ничего нельзя сделать, даже провести форматирование. Гугление по инету не дало толковой информации, все сводилось к тому, что можно попробовать использовать OCZ Toolbox, и он типа может быть поможет. Не помог. Даже попытка запуска secure erase в этом тулбоксе совершенно не помогла — диск не дает с собой ничего делать. Единственной альтернативой является сдать диск по гарантии, случай это гарантийный, и на подобные жалобы на форуме OCZ советуют просто нести в гарантию, и все будет ОК. Но мне было во-первых влом тащить куда-то диск, а во-вторых интересно самому решить эту проблему (и сегодня, а не когда-то там когда по гарантии сделают).
Спасло гугление информации по утилите hdparm для Linux. Совсем другая история, как я на эту утилиту вышел, но это не важно.
2. Записываем образ на CD/DVD диск.
3. Перезагружаем комп, отключаем в БИОС все жесткие диски, если их больше чем один SSD, но оставляем CD/DVD привод, разумеется.
3. Грузимся с диска Ubuntu, выбираем режим Live CD («Try Ubuntu»).
4. Жмем в левом верхнем углу кнопку с логотипом Убунты, вводим там terminal, в найденных программах запускаем Terminal.
5. Вводим команду
sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda
6. Читаем вывод команды, там будет что-то такое:
Model Number: OCZ-VERTEX450
Нам надо убедиться, что это тот самый диск, и это он. Ок, идем дальше.
7. В самом конце вывода команды ищем такое:
Security:
supported
enabled
locked
not frozen
not expired: security count
not supported: enhanced erase
Security level high
Нас интересует «locked» — в нем и проблема, должно быть «not locked»! Значит диск реально блокирован.
sudo hdparm —security-unlock "" /dev/sda
Тут "" — это две двойные скобки, внутри них — ничего, это типа пустой пароль. Не знаю, как на других дисках, а на Vertex 450 проканал пустой пароль.
9. Снова sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda
Видим:
Security:
Master password revision code = 24519
supported
enabled
not locked
not frozen
not expired: security count
not supported: enhanced erase
Security level high
Все ок, «not locked»!
10. Теперь отключаем безопасность (пока мы только типа ввели пароль чтобы получить доступ), чтобы и после перезагрузки все было хорошо:
sudo hdparm —security-disable "" /dev/sda
11. Теперь скачайте утилиту OCZ Toolbox и с ее помощью обновите прошивку SSD: http://ocz.com/consumer/download/firmware
Под Ubuntu это легко сделать, скачав архив для Linux по ссылке выше, распаковав его на рабочий стол и введя команду:
sudo ~/Desktop/OCZToolbox
Обновление прошивки должно пройти успешно, а затем так же успешно должна будет пройти и загрузка компа с этим диском, и все должно без проблем работать. Работы — на 10-20 минут!

- Cannot revert overprovisioning of dynamic disk. If the SSD is formatted as a dynamic disk, the overprovisioning can be increased, but not decreased in SSD Utility. The workaround is to extend the volume in Windows ® Disk Management.
- Local update file not shown in dialog pane (Linux ®). When updating firmware from a local file, the file select dialog will not display a file without an .extension. The workaround is to rename any such file with a .bin extension.
- Cannot create bootable SSD Utility onto blank USB drive (Linux ®). Depending on the contents of the USB stick, the "Create Bootable SSD Utility" feature may fail with status "File system operation failed". The workaround is to download the bootable image and write it to the USB drive with dd.

Important Notes About SSD Utility
- Windows ® and Linux ® : Make sure to set your SATA controller to AHCI mode in the motherboard BIOS if it is not; for instructions see the user documentation for your computer.
- SSD Utility is required to be run as a system administrator.
- Internet connection is required for firmware and BIOS update.
- Updating your firmware with the SSD Utility is not supported under Windows ® XP.
- Make back-up copies of any data on the SSD that you want to keep; some operations result in the complete loss of data on the SSD (you will be warned if this will occur).
