You can’t beat the large 9-series devices that are convenient for implementing business plans. Looking at the wide range of QWERTY-keyboard devices produced in recent years, you are imbued with respect for a company that was not afraid to experiment with forms and content. Once there was an opinion that QWERTY was not needed by a wide segment of users: this type of keyboard was a feature of fairly expensive devices , often such means of communication were also cumbersome, which also did not bring joy to everyone. But time passed, and work continued on creating a device with a moderate size and moderately comfortable keyboard. The popularity of Nokia E71 showed that the right key to success was found, subsequently Nokia E63 appeared, designed for more active users (the smartphone acquired a flashlight and a 3.5 mm jack , but lost the built-in GPS module and got a simpler camera), Nokia E75 and Nokia 5730, E72 ... Three new phones are expected to be on sale soon, these are models C3, C6 and E5. In this article, I will share with you my impressions of getting to know them.

Nokia C3

The device is based on the Series 40 platform, there were no Nokia phones (not smartphones) with a QWERTY keyboard for a long time - this segment was given over to "smart" devices, but now the situation has changed radically. The main argument when choosing this phone is the price. It is expected that the phone will go on sale for 5000 rubles. At the same time, according to its characteristics, the model turned out to be very interesting, which will once again allow you to think about buying such an affordable phone, but with wide capabilities.

Design

The dimensions of the C3 are: 115.5 x 58.1 x 13.6 mm, weight 114 grams. The monoblock is made of plastic, and it is different: the front of the phone is made of glossy material (by the way, it is quite easily soiled), while the back is made of more practical matte plastic. joystick and a pair of additional keys are covered with silver paint.

At the top of the front panel there is an oval hole for the earpiece, below it is a screen with a diagonal of 2.4 inches. The block of keys and the keyboard in their style resemble the "older" devices. On the left side of the phone there is a slot for memory cards microSD, next to it is another - it is used to connect the microUSB cable. On the right, there are no keys, alas, but due to the budget of the device, it was deprived of dedicated buttons. To adjust the volume, you need to resort to the joystick for this action. It's great that the developers did not save on the design of the phone: there are buttons on the sides of the phone, by pressing which you can remove the back cover, a similar scheme is used in the E71, in the Nokia E72 for some reason it was simplified, as a result of which the back panel does not sit in its place so tightly. Under the cover there is a 1320 mAh battery, removing which you can access the SIM card. It's nice to see metal in a phone belonging to such an affordable segment - a removable cover is made of it, inside it is carefully glued with a pair of foam pads, which helps to avoid backlash. At the bottom of the case there is a fastening for a strap, at the top there is a camera lens and speaker holes. At the top end there is both a hole for connecting a charger and a 3.5 mm jack to connect your favorite headphones.

The phone is expected in three colors: Slate Grey, Hot Pink, Golden White. Although the photo shows a blue sample, it is possible that such a modification will be in service.

Keyboard

Next to the navigation key, there are not only the usual buttons for accepting and rejecting a call, as well as function keys, but the phone has also got a couple of additional buttons, becoming even more similar to its older counterparts: the left button is responsible for quick access to contacts, the right one allows start chatting. It's a pity, but you can't reassign these keys to other functions.

The key block is comfortable, pressing soft and pleasant. The device was not localized for Cyrillic, but judging by the similar layout of foreign E71, it can be assumed that C3 will also be engraved according to a similar principle.

Design

The dimensions of 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm almost exactly repeat the dimensions of the E63 (113 x 59 x 13 mm), and the weight is generally identical and equal to 126 grams. The main material from which the smartphone is made is plastic. In the E63, it was soft-touch, more pleasant than in this device. In the upper part, one by one, there is a hole for a 2 mm charger, a 3.5 mm jack and a slot for a microUSB cable closed by a plug.

There is a volume rocker on the right side of the phone.

The design for removing the back cover is similar to the E71: on both sides of the smartphone there is a button, by pressing which the back panel snaps off. In the E5 it is metal, it is held in the mounts very tightly, without play. But as in the C5, it is quite delicate and there may be minor scratches and abrasions.

On the back side there is a 5-megapixel camera lens and a flash that can also work as a flashlight. There are many color options, as many as 5 pieces: Carbon Black, Chalk White, Copper Brown, Silver Grey, Sky Blue.

A display with a diagonal of 2.36 inches is used, the resolution is the same 240x320 pixels, 256 thousand colors are displayed, there is a light sensor. According to subjective feelings, the screen is not as bright as in the E71 (in which it is similar to the one used in the E63 and shows up to 16 million colors), or is this a specific sample.

Keyboard

The block of soft keys has lost a couple of buttons, there is no longer a quick call to contacts and a calendar (these applications were assigned by default, they could be reassigned to other functions), only a reassignable mail button remained.

In appearance, the layout, as in the case of the C3, is similar to the E71, so it remains to count on a similar concept. The buttons themselves are similar to those found in the E63, so it's hard to say anything special about them: those who are satisfied with the keyboard in it, then the C6 will not disappoint.

Platform

The smartphone is based on Symbian 9.3 Feature Pack 2, like all devices of the same level it works quickly and understands, the advantages in speed compared to the previous generation (E63E71) are noticeable, especially if animation effects are disabled in themes. The user has access to 256 MB of memory, included there will be a 2 GB card, while the device itself works with cards up to 32 GB.

Work in networks 850/900/1800/1900, and also support 3G, HSDPA up to 10.2 Mbps and HSUPA up to 2 Mbps. E5 has Bluetooth 2.0 with support for A2DP and AVRCP, there is also Wi-Fi.

In general, the impressions are ambiguous: on the one hand, the phone on the new platform is “long-playing”, but on the other hand, the design of the device is quite modest, the E63 looks prettier to me, although it’s worth waiting for other colors, maybe they will be prettier. It's a pity, but we have to state a decrease in the number of function keys, although the operating time has increased. The expected price for this smartphone is 9 thousand rubles. Until E63 and E71 disappear from sale, the new product will not be easy: E71 costs a couple of thousand more, but it is tactilely more pleasant, and even if it does not have a 3.5 mm jack, it does not work for so long, but it is older in software, but this is all its shortcomings end: just take E71 and E5 in your hand, and the choice is determined. And E63 costs about 6.5-7 tr. and will be the choice of a pragmatic person who needs a smartphone with QWERTY at the most affordable price. When both of these devices disappear from sale, and only the E72 remains, then you won’t have to choose and the E5 will take its place as an inexpensive smartphone with a full keyboard more thoroughly.

Nokia C6

Design

The smartphone is a side slider, a kind of analogue of Nokia 5800 or Nokia N97 mini - whatever you like. For the price, it will take a position between these two devices, at a cost of around 12,000 rubles. it will be slightly more expensive than the 5800, which has been in service for a year and a half, or much cheaper than the N97 mini, which has a different keyboard, a metal back, and a large amount of internal memory. The positioning is clear: the product is for those who need a push-button QWERTY keyboard, but don't want to pay extra money for the 97th mini.

The resistive display is comparable in picture quality to the analogue in the N97 mini, it is bright, the colors are vivid. I liked the response to pressing, the general reaction: the wishes of users are taken into account, kinetic scrolling works fine both in the player and in the gallery, contacts and other applications. There is a light sensor, an accelerometer.

Keyboard

Four rows of keys are complemented by a large convenient joystick button on the right side. The keys themselves are divided among themselves into blocks of 6 and 4 buttons per line on each side. The examples in the photos show the localized version prepared for Russia. The symbols are clearly visible, the buttons are large and convex, there is a small gap between them. In my opinion, typing is very convenient and pleasant. The block of keys somehow reminded me of Nokia N900.

With the beige version, not everything is good - when the backlight is on, the characters are poorly visible, and you can't adjust the backlight on this phone. In this regard, dark options are more practical. I also did not like the navigation key - it is chrome-plated, and will obviously peel off with active use. It is not clear why Nokia never got rid of this disease for so many models.

The body of the Nokia E5 is almost entirely made of plastic - with the exception of the battery cover. The smartphone looks much more austere than the E72, which has some design improvements, such as chrome trim. The Nokia E5's 2.4-inch display with a resolution of 320x240 pixels provides sufficient image sharpness for convenient smartphone work - in particular, typing messages and editing small documents, although the display seems small for perfect web surfing and watching videos. An important advantage of the display is the horizontal orientation, which makes working with the phone more convenient for business users. Although the display of the Nokia E5 displays fewer colors than its predecessor E72 (256K instead of 16M), this cannot be considered a drawback of the phone - given that the device is aimed primarily at business users, the reduction in the number of displayed colors seems quite reasonable. a step to reduce the price and increase the phone's battery life.

The QWERTY keyboard is perhaps one of the key advantages of the Nokia E5: compact and at the same time quite comfortable, with rubberized keys. The only drawback is not the size, but the shape of the keyboard keys, which you will have to get used to before reaching the optimal typing speed.

Otherwise, the design of Nokia E5 is quite standard: in addition to the display and QWERTY keyboard, the front panel of the device has start and end call buttons, a navigation key, 2 shortcut buttons (menu and message dialing mode). Unlike the E72, there is no camera on the front of the E5. On the rear panel of the body of the device are a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and a speaker. At the top of the case there is a microUSB port, a port for connecting a charger, which is standard for all Nokia devices, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Interface:

Nokia E5 runs Symbian S60 3rd Edition like its predecessors E72 and E71. Of course, Symbian is not a bad operating system, but with minimal visual changes in each new version, the interface of the Nokia E5 - even if it is aimed exclusively at business users - looks very outdated. As usual, convenient in terms of functionality, Symbian OS in Nokia E5 provides all the same functions and the same menu layout as in many other devices from the Finnish vendor.

Network and sync:

Nokia E5 supports GSM, 3G, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and Bluetooth standards, so the owners of the device are unlikely to face problems when transferring information. The model is compatible with the SyncML synchronization protocol and Exchange group services, guaranteeing its owner a permanent presence on the network and the ability to quickly exchange information. In addition, the Nokia E5 has Nokia's proprietary applications such as, for example, Ovi Chat and Ovi Contacts, and a number of the most popular applications such as mobile versions of Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, Twitter.

The quality of Internet surfing on the Nokia E5 leaves much to be desired: a small screen with a low resolution and the lack of touch control of the functions of the built-in Symbian browser again make you remember the obsolescence of Symbian - especially given the variety of modern touch phones and browsers designed specifically for mobile devices.

Camera and multimedia:

The Nokia E5 has a 5MP camera with LED flash but no autofocus. Since there is no key for controlling camera functions on the body panel, the camera operation mode will have to be activated through the phone menu. However, not the fastest access is the only drawback of the device's camera, which provides several additional functions: for example, panorama mode, 6-image burst mode, and a timer. The quality of the captured images for a camera without auto focus is quite acceptable - especially when shooting objects at a distance of up to one and a half meters. Although the power of the LED flash is not enough to light up the whole room, it is quite enough to brighten dark objects.

The Nokia E5 camera records video at 15 frames per second in MP4 format; video resolution can be 320x240 or 640x480 pixels. Some photography options, such as white balance and color saturation control, can also be used when shooting video.

The preinstalled Nokia E5 mp3 player is a standard Symbian player that provides quick access to your favorite music and supports the most common audio formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA, as well as FM radio.

Performance:

Luckily, the developers of the Nokia E5 have kept the same 600 MHz processor as in the E72, so the phone's performance doesn't suffer even when multiple applications are running at the same time.

The quality of the transmitted sound signal, traditionally for Nokia, is on top: the sounds are clear, and ambient noise is minimal. The quality of the received signal is slightly worse, but at a normal volume setting, all sounds are still perfectly audible. Perhaps Nokia's main shortcoming in terms of connectivity is its 3G signal reception, which turned out to be below average. With intensive use of Wi-Fi, an mp3 player and an e-mail service, you will have to charge the device every day or two.

Although BlackBerry products are still the best business smartphone for many buyers, Nokia has been producing quite successful business models for a long time - both the E71 and E72 won the recognition of buyers.
